Skipping lamination leaves the natural fiber texture of the board exposed - warmer, quieter and instantly readable as sustainable. It also removes the plastic film, which keeps the carton straightforwardly recyclable and cuts a step from the cost. The trade-offs are real: colors sit flatter as ink soaks into the fiber, and the surface has no barrier against moisture or scuffing. A water-based aqueous coating is available as a middle ground.
