Matte film scatters light instead of reflecting it, which mutes glare, deepens dark colors and makes photography look more considered. It is the current default for premium packaging, and it is the ideal base for spot UV or foil because those glossy elements have something to contrast against. One caution: matte film shows fingerprints and scuffs on large dark panels more than gloss does.
