16pt is the middle ground most brands land on: noticeably more substantial in the hand than 14pt, but still economical at volume. The extra caliper gives panels enough stiffness to hold their shape on a shelf and lets bag handles and gussets take real load. It is the most common stock for retail cartons that need to look premium without moving to a rigid box.
